World Triad Eternity and Cosmic Creativity
In Japan it is called Magatama or Mitsu-tomoe, a symbol for the human spirit. In Bhutan and Tibet it is known as the Cosmic Mandala, a sign of Trimurti, the three aspects of god. With its threefold nature of reality, fate and the eternally spiraling cycles of time, it is a symbol of eternity and cosmic creativity.

Magatama are often inhumed in mounded tumulus graves as offerings to deities or “grave goods”. The consensus among Japanese archaeologists is that magatama originated in Jōmon Japan before spreading to the Asian continent through the Korean peninsula. It is claimed that the earliest Korean prehistoric magatama date to the Early Mumun (post-850 BC) and are generally found in the southern part of peninsula in proximity to Japan.
